Woman impaled by iron rod dies

SEREMBAN: A woman motorist was shocked when an iron rod slid off a lorry and crashed through her car windscreen, killing her sister who was seated in the front passenger seat.

V. Thilaga, 32, and her sister, V. Inthirani, 50, were driving from Rantau to their home in Taman Bunga Sejati here at 10.45am yesterday when the incident happened.
They were driving behind a lorry near Jalan Batu 8 at Kampung Nyatoh here when a half metre-long iron rod slid off the vehicle and crashed into her car. It impaled Inthirani in the neck.
Thilaga said the lorry was not carrying any cargo but she noticed the iron rod dangling minutes before it crashed into her car.
"My car spun before coming to a stop by the side of the road. I saw my sister covered in blood. I screamed for help but my sister was already dead when people came to our aid."
Traffic police chief Assistant Superintendent Abdul Halil Hamzah appealed to witnesses to contact them to assist in investigations.
The accident happened barely 24 hours after a motorist was killed and another injured when a 10-tonne steel pile fell on their respective cars at Km15 of Jalan Lapangan Terbang Subang on Friday evening.
